Le Chat Noir

Now, this here is amongst my favourite feline prints, thus topping my list of kitty art...

Le Chat Noir (French for "The Black Cat") was a 19th-century cabaret in the bohemian Montmartre district of Paris. Apparently, even Picasso wanted to have a go.

The cabaret has a few follow-on's today.  And the catchy name did just that, with hotels, restaurants and the like all over the world honouring the name and the iconic image...

Théophile-Alexandre Steinlen poster art is generally nifty... this one has always done it for me though... The original now lives here.

A prayer for Bajou

Bajou (or, as he preffered, Dante) is one of the most significant friends I've ever had.

It is said that our pets choose us, and their time with us, no matter how long, is as much a part of our journey as it is theirs.

Bajou inspired this blog to a degree, and it is most important that Bajou's story be known... While he is no longer here with me (although, I know he visits us from time to time), awareness about the terrible disease that took him will be his lasting legacy to me, and to other kitty moms and dads.

Favourite Cats

With this, the inaugural post, logic suggests that, in an ad hoc world, consistent themes are useful. This blog honours a host of things that tickle me pink, thus to class it "a fashion blog" or any other such single-dimensioned category of blog, would be inaccurate. Fashion, music, art, photography, amongst other things, are my grand plan. I will undoubtedly always be in good company as I blog away. And so, I begin with an introduction of the grand rulers of our humble home, to whom this blog is largely dedicated...

Any lover of the domestic feline inhabitant will quite possibly catch themselves grinning pleasantly, quietly referencing their own favourite cats. Those less partial will no doubt think something along the lines of 'with tears in my eyes I ask you, another cat nutter?!?' At this time I must make it clear that the daily adventures of Neo (a.k.a the pook/ P / P-Man etc, our tabby friend on the right) and the illusive Koki-Teno (a.k.a T! / T to the ENO / black cat and so on, a believed Bombay, to Neo's left) serve merely as the blue-print for general publication of my favourie things (in the broadest sense possible). Oh yes, the image is courtesy of one of my all-time favourite toys, my lomo fisheye 2.

I will, from time to time, and the interests of a consistent theme (one close to the heart of the author) turn to a host of favourite cats as seen in various art forms and media, new and old. Along the way, you will become better acquainted with my feline muses, and follow them on their adventure into a new world. Cat lovers, rejoice! Those of the "cat-nutter" school of thought... ignore it.

Welcome to A Necessary Cat. Neo, Teno and I are glad to have you...
